Purple
August 2020 was the first time I had ever seen heather in full bloom. It’s no surprise that it had taken me this long—it blooms for just a few, short weeks at the end of summer. I remember standing on the slopes of Schiehallion, completely mesmerised by just how much purple blanketed the surrounding area.
That image stayed with me, imprinted on my mind. As soon as I returned home, I put paint to canvas and began to recreate the extraordinary depth and richness of purples I saw. The resulting painting feels dark and sophisticated in parts, light and energetic in others.
