With over 40 miles of coastline, East Lothian is home to some of the best beaches in Scotland. I’ve always loved being by the coast—a place where land meets sea. It melts away every tension, making me feel instantly at ease and relaxed.

This painting forms part of a series, in which I’ve chosen to depict three spots in East Lothian that I love the most. Yellowcraig is one of my most treasured places on earth. It’s the most magical walk—through the dense and dark forest to the open, expansive grassland that leads you to the beach. This painting captures that moment you climb the subtle gradient of the sand dunes, through the yellow grasses, and the beach below slowly reveals itself. The three bands of this painting summarise the view: the grass, the sea, the sky.
